김민우 작가는 개인적 심상과 주변 환경에 대한 단상을 드로잉과 페인팅으로 표현해왔다. 이는 시각적 불완전함, 왜곡과 익살스로운 블랙코미디 같은 이야기로 재현된다. 특히 근래에 회화를 통해서 공간을 점유해나가는 방식의 드로잉 작업이 인상적이고, 회화라는 매체를 지속적으로 실험해나가는 과정이 다음 단계의 결과물이 궁금해진다. 이번 작업 < 목포, 사람들 >은 그가 목포를 돌아다니며 사람들을 관찰하고 드로잉북에 옮기는 것에서 시작된다. 이를 바탕으로 전시 준비 기간 동안 목포 여객선 터미널에서 현장 드로잉을 진행한다. 작가는 작품을 통해 목포의 특징적인 모습보다는 평범한 일상을 살아가는 사람들을 그리고, 그 안에 담긴 애환과 고민들을 솔직하게 나누고자 한다.
Artist Kim Min-woo has been expressing his personal impressions and reflections on his surroundings through drawing and painting. His work often manifests in visual imperfection, distortion, and narratives reminiscent of dark comedy. Recently, his approach to drawing, which involves occupying space through painting, has been particularly striking, sparking curiosity about the results of his ongoing experimentation with the medium.
His latest project, Mokpo, People, begins with his observations of the people in Mokpo, which he captures in his sketchbook. During the exhibition preparation, he conducts live drawings at the Mokpo Ferry Terminal. Rather than focusing on the distinctive features of Mokpo, Kim aims to portray the everyday lives of ordinary people, honestly sharing their joys and struggles through his work.
