사회현실의 문제들을 예술의 공공성으로 접근하며 작업하는 작가. 평범한 사람들이 한 땀 한 땀 바느질로 만든 마음 조각보로 사회적 트라우마를 감싸 안는 기념비를 공공예술프로젝트 시리즈로 만들고 있다. 2017년, 오랜 외지생활을 접고 고향인 광주에 안착하여 지역작가로서 예술하기의 문제를 진지하게 고민하고 있다.

그는 최근 'One Heart' 프로젝트를 통해 각자의 마음을 표현한 조각보를 연결하여 공동체의 마음과 예술을 하나로 결합하고있다. 이번 작품 역시 ‘One Heart’의 생태시리즈 중의 하나이다. 350여명의 평범한 시민이 작가가 되어 바다와 운명을 함께하는 우리의 마음과 기원을 각자의 조각보에 담았다. 각 조각보 작품은 바다와 공명하는 각자의 마음이 물질적으로 구현된 하나의 몸body이자 장소place인 블럭block이다. 이 블럭은 타인의 블럭들과 지속적으로 연결되며 무수한 의미의 장소를 생성하는 n개의 공명 블럭으로 확장, 증폭된다. 이렇게 연결된 ‘공명 조각보’는 음악, 빛, 바람과 함께 ‘바다에 대한 지구적 장소감’으로 창조된 공명의 장소인 ‘하나의 마음 공명 기념비’로 설치되어, 관객들로 하여금 자신 안에서 무한히 증폭되는 우리의 바다를 만나게 한다.

This artist approaches social realities through the lens of public art, creating works that embrace the public sphere. They craft public art projects that serve as monuments, wrapping social traumas in the metaphorical comfort of patchwork quilts made stitch by stitch by ordinary people. In 2017, after many years away, the artist returned to their hometown of Gwangju, where they have since grappled with the challenges of creating art as a regional artist.Recently, through the One Heart project, the artist has been connecting individual expressions of the heart through patchwork, merging community spirit and art into a unified whole. The latest work is part of the One Heart ecological series. In this project, over 350 ordinary citizens became artists, each stitching their thoughts and hopes, intertwined with the sea's destiny, into their patchwork pieces. Each piece symbolizes a "body" and a "place" that physically manifests an individual's connection to the sea. These patches, or blocks, continuously connect with others, expanding into a myriad of resonant blocks that generate countless meaningful places.The resulting "Resonance Patchwork" installation, created as a monument to "One Heart Resonance," combines music, light, and wind to evoke a global sense of place related to the sea. It invites viewers to encounter the sea within themselves, infinitely amplified through the collective resonance of these interconnected blocks.
