사물이 끊임없이 나타났다 사라짐은 생성과 소멸을 반복하는 우주의 섭리와 상통한다. 그 반복되는 생성과 소멸에 대해 고찰하다 보면, 탄생과 죽음은 크게 다르지 않으며 단지 시작과 끝맺음의 지점을 알려주는 듯하다. 한겨울, 수변 야생식물이 바람을 품은 채 흔들리는 것을 보며 그들이 어디에서 왔고 어디로 향할까를 생각하면, 그들과 나 사이에 존재 자체에 대한 차이가 없다는 것을 비로소 깨닫게 된다.
Objects constantly appearing and disappearing echo the universal law of creation and destruction. As we contemplate this continuous cycle of birth and death, we come to realize that birth and death are not so different after all; they merely mark the points of beginning and ending. Observing wild plants by the water's edge swaying in the winter wind, I find myself wondering where they came from and where they are headed. It is then that I finally understand there is no fundamental difference in the essence of their existence and mine.

문이원은 야생식물의 마지막 모습을 자개로 그리는 작가, 들판의 한해살이 식물로 스러짐의 미학에 집중하는 작가다. 그의 ‘검은 춤 프로젝트’는 스케치와 사진, 시 낭독 영상물, 그리고 자개작업으로 구성된다.
빛을 등지고 바라본 개체는 본연의 색이 사라지고 검은 실루엣만 남아, 바람에 흔들리며 ‘검은 춤’이 된다. 하지만 검은 춤은 부정적인 의미가 아니다. 이 시리즈는 밖에서 흔히 볼 수 있는 잡초를 그린 것으로, 겨울의 모습이며, 시들어 다음 생을 위해 스러지는 마지막 움직임을 나타낸다. 이들은 생명력이 다한, 키가 작고 취급되지 않는 풀들이지만 ‘다음 세대를 위해 돌아가는 생명’이다. 때문에 작가는 자개로 하늘(허공)을 만들어 < 검은 춤 >이 빛나게 한다.
Moon E-won is an artist who captures the final moments of wild plants through the use of mother-of-pearl, focusing on the aesthetics of fading as seen in annual plants in the fields. His Black Dance Project combines sketches, photographs, poetry readings, and mother-of-pearl artworks.In this project, when a plant is viewed against the light, its natural colors vanish, leaving only a black silhouette that sways in the wind, becoming a "black dance." However, the black dance is not meant to convey a negative connotation. This series depicts common weeds seen in winter, illustrating their last movements as they wither away to prepare for the next life cycle. Though these plants are small, overlooked, and at the end of their life, they represent life returning to nourish the next generation.To honor this cycle, the artist creates a sky (or void) with mother-of-pearl, allowing the Black Dance to shine, symbolizing the beauty and significance of these humble plants as they complete their life journey.
