작가는 10여 년 전 고향에서 농사지으며 그림 그리며 살고 싶었다. 화가에게는 집보다 작업할 공간이 필요하다. 작가는 그림 그리고 농사짓는 화가로 살기 위해 2년의 준비 끝에 고향으로 돌아왔다. 막상 10년이 지나니 농사짓고 바다 일하고 그림 그리는 화가가 되어 있었다. 파리한 화가가 아니라 검게 그을린 농부의 모습이 자연스럽다. 밭에 풀이 자라는 소리를 들으며 붓을 쥐고 그림 그린다. 농사일로 하루를 보내고 나면 몸이 천근만근에 머리는 하얗게 맑아진다. 무아지경이 따로 없다. 작가의 고향 화원은 이름만큼이나 아름답다. 서쪽으로 시아바다라 불리는 바다에 면해 있다. 특히 석양이 아름답다.

작가는 유년과 청소년시절 청호에서 보냈다 바닷가 뻘밭에서 천진난만하게 놀았던 시절이 있었다 하늘엔 갈매기가 날고 짱뚱어와 망둥어가 뛰놀고 칠게와 농게가 가까이 있는 듯아득한 시절을 보냈다 바닷가에 뛰어놀던 추억이 그리움으로 남겨져 그리웠던 시절을 상상하며 붓을 든다.

About ten years ago, the artist longed to return to his hometown to farm and paint. For a painter, a space to work is more essential than a home. After two years of preparation, he finally returned to his roots, determined to live as a farmer and artist. Now, a decade later, he has indeed become a painter who farms and works by the sea. His appearance is more akin to a sun-darkened farmer than a pale artist, and this transformation feels natural.

He paints while listening to the sound of weeds growing in the fields. After a day of farming, his body feels heavy, but his mind is clear and refreshed, reaching a state of total immersion. The artist's hometown, Hwa-won, is as beautiful as its name suggests, facing the sea known locally as "Shiaba" to the west. The sunsets there are particularly stunning.

He spent his childhood and teenage years in Cheongho, where he played innocently in the tidal flats by the sea. The memories of seagulls soaring in the sky, mudskippers and gobies leaping around, and crabs scuttling nearby remain vivid yet distant. These cherished memories fuel his imagination and inspire him to take up his brush, painting scenes that recall the joyful days spent by the shore.
