성능경(1944-)은 단색조 회화가 국내 화단을 지배하던 1970년대 초, 한국 현대미술의 전개 과정에서 전위적 실험미술로 기성 화단에 변화를 모색했던 대표적인 작가이다. 특히 신문과 사진 등의 매체를 주로 활용해 주제를 전달하는 그의 작업은 탈장르적인 개념미술로 분류된다. 그것은 시대에 따라서는 권력에 대한 저항, 신체 회복의 표현, 일상에 대한 주목이기도 하다.
Sung Neung-kyung (b. 1944) is a prominent artist who emerged during the early 1970s, a time when monochromatic painting dominated the Korean art scene. As a key figure in the evolution of Korean contemporary art, he sought to introduce change through avant-garde experimental art. His work, which primarily uses media such as newspapers and photographs, is classified as conceptual art beyond traditional genres. Depending on the era, his art has addressed themes of resistance against power, expressions of bodily recovery, and attention to everyday life.
